Hygge in the Hills [1]
Would recommend
Reviewed on 2025-09-08 by Britney S. , Dolliver, IA United StatesWe stayed here for a family trip and enjoyed the location and rental. It was very nice it was clean only downfall was pillows and beds were not the comfiest I would recommend bringing a pillow if you are picky. The company also is very easy to get ahold of if you need anything. We had 2 large trailers for atvs and we had questions on parking and they helped get us in contact with the ski lodge for parking.

Cozy Snowstorm
Reviewed on 2023-05-04 by , Sioux Falls, SD United StatesThe weather for our weekend in the Black Hills was not what we expected but this lovely property was a great place to spend a snowy few days. This was smaller than some of the surrounding properties but it was perfect for a weekend away as a couple. Very clean and well equipped and the hot tub was great in the evenings with the snow falling. Very nice location close to Lead and Deadwood. I really enjoyed the attention to detail in decor and to guest needs like the snow shovels at every exterior door and the the basket of towels near the patio for the hot tub. Small but beautiful kitchen
Nice quiet house and vacay
Reviewed on 2022-11-04 by SHERI S. , Bismarck, ND United StatesLoved the vibe and decor of this home. We had what we needed for the most part, but the kitchen is a bit sparsely equipped and there isn't any place for food as no pantry and enough cabinets. But if you're not there to cook much it's perfect. Beds were comfy and the hot tub was great to sit in.

We liked the rustic feel of the decor but everything was new. Lots of amenities made our stay very relaxing. We liked the gas fireplace and hot tub. Thank you very much!

Off the Beaten Path in the Black Hills
Reviewed on 2021-08-26 by carl p. , Pewaukee, WI USWe spent a week in South Dakota as a family and were looking for a place to recharge in luxury for a few days. Hygge in the Hills worked out great for us. There were spectacular views as we drove into the mountains to the house. In the winter it would be very convenient for Terry Peak Ski area which is right nearby. The house itself had all the modern conveniences and gave us plenty of room to spread out. Our family of 5 had more than enough room so we were not on top of each other like we were in the hotels the other nights! The property was well maintained and clean when we arrived. There were plenty of towels for our stay. The washer and dryer were great to give us a chance to restock for the rest of our trip. The kids loved having internet and satellite TV service to reconnect after being on the road. We enjoyed unwinding in the hot tub at night. The kitchen was stocked with all the essentials we needed to prepare a few meals. It was a short drive into Lead/Deadwood and also convenient to reach the hiking trails along beautiful Spearfish Canyon. Overall it was a great place to unwind and we enjoyed our stay. I would recommend to anyone looking for a quiet place, off the beaten path while vacationing in the Black Hills but maybe not as convenient if you are looking for a home base to spend time in Custer State Park (about 1.5hr away) or the Badlands (about 2hrs away).

It was clean, everything was new, the hot tub was awesome, they had games for us to play and a guide for different activities we could do. They were very, very quick to answer any of our questions. We loved how close we were to the Terry Peak, and the area was just pine, hills, and pure beauty. It’sa quick drive into Deadwood as well!

Welcome to Hygge in the Hills — a cozy mountain retreat where warmth, comfort, and a touch of whimsy come together in perfect alpine harmony. Nestled in the heart of the Black Hills and less than a mile from Terry Peak Ski Area, this inviting two-level cabin offers the ideal balance of adventure and relaxation, no matter the season.
In the winter, you’re just moments away from carving down snowy slopes or setting out on scenic snowmobile trails, while in the summer, the same mountains transform into a playground of wildflowers and world-class mountain biking. After a day of outdoor thrills, return to your cabin sanctuary where soft lighting, rustic charm, and the crackle of a fireplace invite you to unwind and savor the moment.
The main level welcomes you with an open-concept kitchen and living area, thoughtfully designed for connection and comfort. Cook a hearty meal while chatting with family or friends, or curl up on the couch as the fire glows in the background. Step out onto the covered deck, where the mountain air greets you — fire up the grill for an evening barbecue or sink into the bubbling hot tub as stars twinkle overhead.
The master bedroom is located on the main level, offering a peaceful retreat with a connected bathroom for privacy and convenience. Downstairs, you’ll find two additional bedrooms, providing space and comfort for everyone in your group. The lower level also offers a cozy atmosphere for movie nights or late-night laughs — complete with a smart TV and plenty of seating.
For those bringing their sense of adventure (and their gear), there’s ample parking for a truck and trailer, perfect for guests with snowmobiles or ATVs.
When you’re ready to explore, Deadwood is just 10–15 minutes away — brimming with historic charm, lively nightlife, and gaming galore. Or, take a short drive to Spearfish Canyon, where waterfalls tumble over ancient rock walls and trout streams beckon for a day of fly fishing and quiet reflection.
At Hygge in the Hills, every sunset over the pines and every quiet evening under the stars invites you to slow down, breathe deeply, and find your own sense of “hygge” — that perfect, cozy contentment — in the heart of the Black Hills.
